Event Description:

Professional learning in schools plays a significant role in helping children to succeed and teachers to be the best they can be. When delivered effectively, professional learning can have a significant impact on student outcomes so it is essential that there is strong leadership of this area in schools. There are, however, current issues with staff recruitment and retention so it is important that the right culture exists that allows staff to develop in a supportive environment. This can help to improve staff morale, confidence and reduce stress. Unfortunately, budgets for professional learning are being cut and senior leaders are being asked to increasingly justify spending in this area.

This TeachMeet is for all leaders of professional learning (or CPD) and has been set up to be 'low-cost' and provide a breadth of information. Simply said, a TeachMeet is a forum in which a group of teachers and educators get together to share ideas for use in a classroom or wider school setting. Our aim is to offer a session where colleagues from schools in the area can network, share their ideas and hopefully acquire a few new ones to take away.

This TeachMeet will focus on Professional Learning or CPD. Key leaders from the Wellington College Teaching School Partnership (WCTSP) will provide a brief overview of how they deliver professional learning in their schools. They will share their experiences, outline challenges that they have faced and also some key strategies that have the most impact. The TeachMeet is open to all and particularly those who currently hold a leadership position overseeing professional learning in a school. It is also open to those who might aspire to such a role or if you are simply interested to learn more about different professional learning approaches.

We would welcome contributions from those attending so if you would like to share your experiences (for no more than 5 minutes) then contact the WCTSP office on wctsp@wellingtoncollege.org.uk. No idea is too big or too small so if you would like to share your ideas you can do this as a Nano presentation (2 mins) or a Micro presentation (5 mins). A projector will be available.

Event Outcomes:

Share ideas/experience and expand knowledge of a variety of approaches to delivering CPD programmes.
